I take it as a compliment when you tie flies for someone and they contact you and tell you not to let anyone else see a certain pattern

This thread reminds of a quote by Ludwig Wittgenstein: "Whereof one can't speak, thereof one must be silent".

If I have a successful pattern, personally I'd like as many people as possible to share in my success. It feels so much more rewarding than to catch while no one else is.

Down to the individuals own personal needs and what they hope to gain from a day's fishing though I supposes.

Or the famous quote,
