Default Scierras 2 year garantee ? shocked

It,s been sorted by the two dealers i bought them from. Gromit and lochside tackle thanks to you both a great service.

once I read ragots post i called the shop i bought it from and they told me it was a lifetime waranty ? Don,t know what to think.
I tried e mailing the uk rep and the e mail keeps coming back as undeliverd. HELP

I spoke to gromit " http://ian-woods.co.uk/ " whom i bought one of the rods from he,s asured me it,s a lifetime waranty. One of the best people you,ll ever deal with. Top notch service before and after sale. I also called the other shop lochside Tackle they also told me don,t worry it,s coverd by a lifetime waranty also good service. Scoobs

Something to bear in mind is that most other companies that offer you a 'Lifetime Guarantee' will still charge you a nice wee charge for 'administration' purposes.

£30 currently for Greys going up shortly, I believe to £40 per section!!

Add that up over a 3 or 4 section rod and you have the same price as the rod probably originally cost.

Scierra may, in any event, sell you a replacement section after 2yrs.

Just so you know - the 'Lifetime Guarantee Business' was started over a decade ago by a half smart rogue in the States . As a sales stealing weapon and on the basis that he was buying in cheap Korean Made Rods - fitting a tipring in Florida and then selling on into the American Trade at US prices . In other words buying the things at $15 and selling on at $125 .

He got fingered and bought out in the end but by the time that happened assorted desperate rod makers ( really big ones ) had joined in at horrifying costs and massive losses of profitibility .

Some adults in the Trade refused to play ; Loomis , Shakespeare , Daiwa . Me I wondered how the others would all get out of what they'd committed themselves very shortsightedly to .
Two answers - most of them stopped manufacturing in the expensive West and went to cheap as chips China but kept the prices up . Thus giving them a very large margin to operate the long term implications of damned silly guarantees .
The other way was to start introducing 'Administrative Charges ' which most of them now do and it is most interesting to me how anyone dare demand a £30 charge per section when the entire rod cost less than $15 landed from China in the first place . It is actually profitable business if handled effectively .
It got them off a hook of their own making and kept the beggars in business .

As about the last actual hands on British Rodbuilder the only thing I'd supply you out of here with - carrying a lifetime guarantee - is a coffin - and that assumes you are already dead !

For the rest of it - I and the other honest tackle makers in this country are always sympathetic and we are also bound by the Sale of Goods Act 1973 and its full provisions.

This was a marketing wheeze that went very wrong like the Cheap Airflights do that nearly busted Hoover over a decade ago - and has had desperately serious knock on implications and somewhat spoiled the entire rod trade.

10 years ago the Chinese didn't make flyrods - now they make 90+ percent - and my , aren't there a lot of skilled rodbuilders on the dole in this country and the USA .

Just so's you know

Steve Parton

Scooby, did you contact Svendson sports,? Customer manager is Jeff Warren, he is usually pretty helpful.
They aren't the fastest dog in the trap so to speak though.

In 30 years of fairly regular FF I have broken 2 rods, one entirely my own fault, the other just one of those things.

If all the rods I have owned were £30 cheaper with no guarantee I'd have saved a fortune.

Now I mostly buy second hand or wrap my own (for fun, not 'cos I'm cheap) and I keep a decent backup to hand on any outing.

It,s peace of mind when you have a lifetime garantee. All my other rods do 2 of them under £100
