Changes in regrown fin structure?

Hi,

That's something i have been searching for intensively but can not find what i am looking for. In one paper (which i can not find as well), there was a short sentence that there are changes in fin that has regrown after damage. I assume it might have something to do with fin rays, however this is just a guess.

Any firm data, tips on literature are more than welcome
