Default They're at it again..............

Hot on the heals of the Trout Fishermans review of the Hardy Demon rod, Trout and Salmon have reviewed the Hardy Uniqua reel ...I'm not knocking the reel.
It has to be read to be believed ...........

"..the most unusual feature of the Uniqua is that it's black..... most Hardy reels are silver." [ There's a selling point, our reel's black]

"it's not light...but makes up for it's bulk by offering great bar-stock strength"
[ isn't the point of using bar-stock that it is light?]

"Spools have been cleverly designed......." [wait for it.......] "..ridges on the abhor help the backing to grip and ensure that the abhor doesn't compress under the pressure from the backing and line.." [ WTF?] "...which can result in the spool locking on the frame." [Seriously?]

That snippet of the review does sound a little biased I must admit.

Ridges. . . .wow.

Is there a bit that reads 'The reel also has a unique turn-a-round-windy function that enables the user to add line to the reel.'?

Fell out with them a few years ago over subscriptions and readers offers,

A fly reel is nothing more than a simple bit of mechanical engineering. Unfortunately most magazine editors are not qualified mechanical engineers, nor do they consult people who are. That's why you get a load of b****cks written in many fishing tackle reviews these days.

Many years ago, T&S was THE game fishing magazine. This was in the days when they had a decent editor who concerned himself with the correction of spelling and English in the articles and left the content to freelance writers who knew what they were doing.

Times have changed, haven't they?

There was a great quote in the weekend paper, which may be apt here:

quote from Charley Saatchi - "I'm touched you think advertising copy is written from the heart".

Quote:
Times have changed, haven't they?
I was talking to a motoring journalist a while ago and he said that they couldn't criticise cars because they'd pull their advertising.
The days when a journo could actually get a product improved seem to have disappeared under the power of ad. money and the threat of litigation.

Some while ago now Hardy's got shot of all their UK Production staff - sacked all my pals they did !

So this gear is Chinese , Korean ,....... other parts of the Far East ok !

Questions

i) Why is it so expensive ?
ii) Why is anybody buying any of it who actually knows what happened ?

I could say a whole lot more but who needs the hassle
