Default Should I buy this Salmon Rod

A neighbour of mine has a Split Cane Salmon Rod, it is 10ft long, the Rod was made in Cork Ireland about 55yrs ago, it is hard to believe-- as it looks like it has never been used, the owner tells me he had it tailor made and only used it 4times ,and has never had time to use it again, it is perfect no flaws, there is also a matching spinning rod in the same condition, they were both stored all that time in a bakerlite tube, the cloth rod covers are showing signs of age. he is asking $200 for both Rods, is that too much to pay, I have a alluminium reel that is 50yrs old made in Japan, I am sure it would be perfect for the flyrod,
I need advise,

Value on each rod would be about £100 each, thats $400,

rods are antique and without knowing the make it could be worth more,

well worth the money

collectors item,

go buy them

Welcome to the forum, I would be careful of laying out that kind of money on a rod if there are no makers details on it , also a lot depends on build quality.
It may be worth the money or it may be worth 25 euro.
Up to you and what you want it for.

I'm not sure rods that size are worth anything except to the owner. The spinning rod might be fine, but 10' on a cane rod would be a pig to use. So the value is down to how much you want to spend on owning them, not using them.

The value is unlikely to go up, either. However, if you have 200 lying around, why not? You might get some fun out of them once in a while..

It also might be an idea to try casting it before considering making him an offer.
