Default Will this work?

Managed to get up the pond today.
We have got to touch it up a bit to make it more life like.
Once the ice has melted we are going to site it just off the big tree at the back of the picture.
Hopefully no more problems with cormorants.
Cormorants do not like sea eagles-So we have been told.
Whats the chances of our success? Peter

Not sure about cormorants (I would tend to agree with the 12g option) but it will probably attract the local crow population as they will likely try to mob it

Think it might work initialy until the cormorants realise it's not a threat.

I knew someone who claimed to have installed a cast iron heron to deter the real ones from raiding his garden. Worked initially, but then all the fish died because it fell over, pierced the pond liner with its beak and let the water out.

Hi There,

I don't think this will do any harm.

I would suggest though that you move it every couple of days and if you can, get a different one to change it with.

A flexible pole so it moves in the wind would possibly help.

You can also get realistic Eagle Owl "decoys" for around £20 which also might help but again would need to be kept on the move.

Constant disturbance should eventually impact on their habits.

Good Luck

Best Regards

robbie

There was an Eagle Owl sitting on the end of the boat jetty at Grafham some years ago, courtesy of John Mees [allegedly].
That worked pretty well at keeping the Cormorants away from the harbour.

Why it's not there now is probably down to English Nature or some such organisation??
