Default Ireland 2010 April/May

Anyone give me a idea of the best time to travel over to Ireland? Looking to get out there with a my farther, grandfather and family mate. So far we are thinking of travelling out on the 30th of April but when do you think the best time will be for the mayfly hatches and so on?

Also, can anybody list some must have flies to take out or links to some tied flies on here?

Oh ye and we will be fishing up in Co.Mayo (Conn & Corrib). Any other top loughs to fish???

Thanks in advance

I'm sure there are some here who could give you an accurate time for major hatches.
As for flies, for traditional wets I suggest; Kate McClaren, Bibio, Golden Olive Bumble, Claret Bumble, Green Peter, Butcher, Mallard & Claret etc
Other patterns like dabblers are poular.
Some Elk Hair Caddis and Stimulators would be good and as far as nymphs go take some hares ear and pheasnt tail.

We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Don't change your dates... they are spot on. It is a productive time on Corrib with several hatches going on at once. Duckfly/Olives/Mayfly

Hey riverfat,

April/May for County Mayo/Galway - Try Peter O'Rielly's books for reference.

Try Fishing Talk Ireland for an Irish welcome and a quick fly scam ahem... sorry swap before you come over.

If your coming over after easter try to retrain from scoffing all the cream eggs in the house champ...!
