Default Fishing in Aberdeenshire

After many years of hard toil as a Cultural Ambassador South of the border!!?? I am returning to live in Aberdeenshire, probably somewhere between Ellon and Peterhead.

I will be looking to fish both lochs (stocked and wild) and rivers, and would be grateful for any steer on the best places. I would also be keen to join a club in the area.

All info will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Derek

Default Aberdeenshire

Derek

Baz gave good advice, there are plenty of nice stocked fisheriesin Aerdeenshire, however there are no wild trout lochs in the area.

The ADAA has loads of water on the Don and Ythan but is relatively expensive to join and has a waiting list I beleive. The Deveron not to far away is also a good trut river (no acess for trout once the Salmon season starts though) It is also the 5th most prolific Salmon river in scotland and holds the record for a British fly caught salmon.

Cheers

Jim

Jim, without wishing to appear argumentative you CAN get brownie fishing on the Deveron in the salmon season. Have been sorted out by Frank from Turriff Tackle more than once, there are also a couple of lochs nearby that I have fished and contain brown trout. Loch Na Bo & Loch Park. While not as scenic as a highland loch they do contain a lot of good sized fish and are not stocked, as far as I know.

Most of the above is true except for about the don. There are no big trout in the don, honestly not one

Thanks for all the info guys. Lots of opportunities. I'll hopefully try all of them this year.

Chuileog.......If I do get round to trying the Don, I promise I'll just catch the little ones!!!!

No offence taken I fish both Na Bo and Park , they are not local to Peterhead though, depending on traffic 3 to 4 hour round trip.
Neither are they wild lochs both man made and stocked at one time or another.

I'll speak to Frank next time I fish the Turrif waters and find out about the trout fishing.

Cheers

Thanks for putting me right Jim. I am not local to the area [approx 450 miles away] but I managed to track those lochs down when the Deveron was in spate. Got a real shock when I fished Na Bo the first time. Hooked into a good fighting fish and got a surprise when a "silver" fish surfaced. Thought it was a sea trout until I discovered this was a descendant from the original stocking from Loch Leven. Was also surprised at the abundance of trout in Park. Shame it is so heavily weeded but have managed fish up to 2lb if you can get through the free taking smaller fish. Cheers to you as well Jim.

Default Na bo / Park

Spruce

I've hooked a big one at Na bo as well but it broke me off Its a nice place though.

We float tube Park early season , it can be prolific, again a nice setting. Weeds are ridiculous though would be a first class loch if the weeds were cut back a bit.

cheers

Jim
