Then why have you restricted your search to just one rod from just one maker?

Wolfie,

I am in pretty much the same boat, in that I am looking for a 9' 5wt, initially thinking about at helios ( tried the 6 wt) have recently tried the 9'6" Z axis.
I have now arranged with Sportfish to go and try all sorts of 5 and 6 weight rods and the nicest will the vote mate.

I "faffed" around for a month or two thinking it as definitely the Helios, and then realised that I have to be clear in my mind what suits me first....

Anyway thats my take on this sort of decision, may end up with a surprise, or it may confirm my original thoughts.

But at least I should be comfortable with the final choice.

I hope this helps,

Andy.

Wolfie, all rods perform or under perform, according to line involved. When testing, make sure you try different weights of the same line. The 10ft. Z works best for me, up lining 2 wts. Also, look out for a Salmon/steelhead taper, I love fishing with it. Roll casts and water loads are so much easier. You can still over head cast, but mending and such is much sweeter. Cabelas chain in US. bought the remaining XPs if you fancy one.

I've got the 10ft #5. I really like it-use it for wild brown trout fishing on the lochs. Its quite powerfull. I use it most of the time until the wind gets too strong and I switch to the #7.

Definately try before you buy though.
