Default sinker with a float tip

hi all
i have a scierra xda float tip, by chance. bit confused here - why would a sinking line have a float tip help please!

I've never heard of one myself. Perhaps it's to fish hard on the bottom, without the need for buoyant flies, e.g. boobies.

Thats a first for me also,do you mean an actual all in one piece of line or an added floting braid or similar.

Hi Maggie,
These lines allow you to fish just clear of the bottom without using bouyant flies. Pull in some line and the tip is dragged down, stop pulling and it will rise in the water again.
Occasionally useful for a couple of deeply-fished buzzers, sedge pupae or similar. Probably okay with blobs, too.
Don't forget that if your leader is longer than the floating tip your point fly will be on the bottom, anyway.
