Default Unusual catches

in my varied fishing past i have had a go for most species using most methods and along the way have had some [unusual catches]. three bats on fly at dusk, two seagulls and one duck on floating crust for carp, a dog and a boy with my back cast on girvan pier, and sadly a bag of dead cats on the canal fishing for roach!! can i just add that all were carefully handled and returned alive and well, apart from the cats. is this a record or can anybody top this?

i will try .................

when i had just left school(long time ago before anyone else says it )i went down to the ouse below york it was well up like the pics you see on tv ,i went with a mate i had been at school with all my time there and we set up in a sandy bay to fish for the carp and had reasonably heavy gear on as on this tidal section when its up the tide holds up all the **** and tends to push it into the bay logs, usual other rubbish ,sometimes boats, and dead sheep, we were fishing about an hour and the line started peeling off my reel so i lifted into it and felt solid resistance however there was none of the usual head shaking etc just a solid weight and thought bloody hell another sodding tree,so started pulling steadily and stated to gain a bit of line ,at that point it came nearer to the surface and could tell it wasn't a log or whatever as it was a pale grey colour so thought it must be a dead sheep as it was grey ,with the back eddy current it pushed back down out of sight ,eventually getting my line back slowly to within in about 10 yards from the bank but still couldn't see it as it was near the bottom so waited for the next push of current to use to my advantage to get it up and towards me by now it was about 5yds off the bank and my mate got on his belly to grab the line and hand line it in he got the line and started to pull but still could not see it so he waited for the next push of current to help him as it came he started to pull still on his belly as the current pushed it up the sloping sand bank beneath the surface it came easily and the grey thing showed slowly then all of a sudden it rose a hand popped up out of the water attached to a body my mate absolutely s**t himself and i was no better we couldnt believe what we had just dragged in a human body,we cut the line and he went to ring the police ,to cut it a bit shorter it turned out that it could of been a man around 25-30 yrs old who had been missing for a few days from somewhere up near richmond and they thought he had fallen in the river swale and come down with the floods!they never found the
body! dont want to catch one like that again i can tell you.

I generally only catch the trees, fish, and the bottom, but my cousin in Canada managed to snag a snapping turtle on the edge of its shell. They eventually towed it up to the canoe (it was fairly small) and it was released unharmed.

A long time ago while I was fishing the River Thames.
I hooked up a young lady, passing directly behind me on the tow path.
While unhooking her and apologising, we got chatting.
Made a date and after a year or two got married.
She was a nice looking lady and I thought she was quite a “catch”
However as the years went by things changed for the worst.
She got fat and ugly-she tried to stop me fishing.
It all came to a head when the question was asked -
Its me and our marriage - or you and your fishing – you cant have both
-you decide.
Well I did decide, all those years ago and I am still fishing.
Never done it again.
May not have been my most unusual catch- but it was my worst.
Peter
