"Grenville Ham, who founded Green Valleys, said the Environment Agency imposed strict rules to protect the water level of the streams and ensure that wildlife in the streams was not harmed. National Park rules ensured that the schemes were heavily disguised visually."

I can only go by this information, as there isn't too much to go on the article. Hopefully they stay true to their word!

I also saw that and wondered what the impact might be.
The EA are very strict on water abstraction for hydro though - or for any other purpose. Here in west Wales a lot of small hydro's are turned down.
I'd say that reservoirs are more of a drain on small streams in my area. A lot of streams are diverted to Nant-y-Moch Res for instance - meaning the west facing streams have shrunk from what they were. I wasn't around to see the before and after mind you.
Hydro is a very good source of power, but on a large scale we've pretty much covered all bases - now it's only the rivers and streams that can be used.

Reducing the streams flow by 50% must make a difference,! But after it has passed through the pipework I suppose it is then again introduced back to the stream?
And the EA wont let us put a couple of rocks in our river.

Are you local!!!

I wouldn't be against this if it was proven to work and not cause any damage - lots of worse things happen to our rivers, but I take your point.

Is it possible to get out with a camera and document the facts with this?
