Nice video, but you will find most people who make bamboo rods use a hand plane instead of a bevelling machine. Planing is harder, and takes much longer to complete.

Using a router will also cut through the grain, whereas handplaning with be a touch more gentle..

Interesting video: that's how to manufacture a cane rod rather than craft it. I have no idea whether the finished product suffers..

One of the best names in that game, Winston are made from mills. Derivatives from them such as Ramsey Rod (a student of Brackett) and presumably Sweetgrass (Brackett post Winston) still use a milling machine.
Tom Morgan produced a "hand mill", I don't know if this was mechanised or not.
With the long waiting lists and $2k-$3k prices for these rods, I would say there would be no difference in performance or finish, it's whether or not you prefer a totally "handmade" item, as per your reels.

Oh, and I believe that Borough Rods up norf are milled rods as well.
