Default Salt O.K. Now, Oestrogen ?

Thanks for putting my mind at rest regarding road salt & the health of our rivers. Now, can you stop me worrying about the level of Oestrogen in our water & it's ability to turn fish to a single sex? There was a period when the press was full of reports about this & the effect on the human sperm count. I hav'nt seen anything writen about this & our possible demise for some time now and can only presume it's getting worse. Did'nt they say that mosse around the great lakes were dying out?
I'm not being treated for depression & can only put my condition down to cabin feaver. So please forgive me if this is all getting a bit too much.
Rod.

Not sure about that one Rod, but during the freeze, I did see many dairy farmers disposing of many thousands of gallons of milk, straight into the drains.
Milk as far as I am aware is one of the biggest killers of fish, as it starves the water of oxygen.

Move to London -> the water in the Thames has already been through six other folk, and one in seven is on Prozac, so by the time a londoner makes tea, he is completely happy about things.....

as far as I am aware farmers are obliged to contact the authorities as to the disposal of un collected milk...this is not acceptable not at all!

The environmental problems that may be linked to estrogen and other artificial compounds getting into the water are a big topic with anglers here in the US.

The main problem isn't single sexed fish, it's intersexed fish. A big study by the USGS study was published last fall and the problem appears to be much bigger than previously thought with intersexed fish appearing in large numbers in almost every major basin in the USA.

I think we're at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the problems caused by pharmaceuticals getting into the water supply. I remember hearing or reading a statistic and there has been a vast, vast increase in the last 20 years in the number of people who take an Rx pill every day. There's no way that can good for our waters when you consider the fact that once these Rx compounds get into the water they remain there for long periods of time and the impact of these compounds on the environment has never been studied.
