Default Digital O.S. Map Sale

Those who use Ordnance Survey maps for seeking out those remote lochs and secret trout streams might be interested in the Anquet January sale .... I have just purchased the whole of Northern Britain in digital 1:50,000 scale for £53.50 including postage. I can now sit at my computer and view detailed maps of any loch or river in Scotland and northern England. I consider this excellent value. See:

Anquet Maps. Digital GPS Map Software. Digital Mapping Solutions for the UK.

I dont know if this will be any good to you but I think it is really a helpful tool and free of charge, Its a web based ordance survey mapping system on one side of the screen & the satellite mapping on the other so you can actually view the map and also see where on the ground it is at the same time, very good if your planning routes or fishing trips.
Where's the path ?
Regards
George

There is an OS Map option on multimap.com. Do the ones you've bought give you more than multimap?

I used to have Anquet maps and more recently memory map when I climbed. Having now switched to a Macbook I was wondering if there was any map software out there I can run on a mac without having to load windows onto my machine?

Any thoughts gentleman?

I've been using Anquet for a few years now and there is so much more you can do with it.

You can set it on an area and print it out either at 25,000 or 50,000 scale, you obviously get more area at 50,000 Even if you only have the 50,000 scale map.

Load tracks straight from a hand held GPS into it and see where you have been, how far, height, ascent and or descent.

Mark out a track and see what it looks like and how far it is, set up Naismith Rule to your own pace and estimate how long it will take, then upload it to the GPS and follow it when you get there.

Change the map to Virtual Landscape and see all the ups and downs or Split Screen to see map and landscape together.

I laminate the map for the area I am going to and use that rather than the OS map which I keep tucked away in the rucksack. All the grid lines are there so you can still navigate with the map and compass.

I am now considering whether to upgrade to the new version from the 1.2.20 version I have at the moment as I believe the saved information from this isn't compatible and I can't be bothered with all the hassle of converting them

As an addition to this I use google earth a lot. Zoom in, put your cursor on the spot where you want to get to, stick the longitude and latitude (bottom left hand corner) into your tom tom. Bob's your uncle fanny's your aunt. I've found this to be accurate to within a few metres...............brilliant..........birdsnest
