Default How Long Will it take for the Ice to Melt???

I am looking for some advice on time for ice to melt...

Most of the trout fisheries and lochs in Central Scotland are frozen over at the moment meaning no fishing.

I reckon at best guess that the vast majority have 6 inches thick ice on the surface.

The big freeze started in mid December, its now 10th January and set to continue till end of January according to the met office long range forecast.

Does anyone have any info on how long it might take the ice to melt once we do get a thaw on? Or remember number of days/weeks from experience?

I was wondering if it might take the same time to melt a certain depth of ice as it would to form in the first place?

Any info most welcome...

Bob

Default some idea

This is from Albury Estate website

10th January: CLOSED. Still frozen solid, ice is now 2-3 inches thick and will only get thicker with successive frosts. I suspect that (as in 1995 when frozen for 6 weeks) thawing could take at best a, couple of weeks

This I hope give some idea

Guess it depends on how thick the ice is in the first instance and how high the temps get and how sustained the thaw becomes.
Albury thawed out reasonable quickly but re froze just as fast as did Halliford after Xmas period. Those Scottish lochs are going to take some time though, its been that much harder frost wise up there.
At present-3.30 sunday, the snow here in Surrey is melting reasonably quickly, least ways pavements and roads are becoming clearer and current temperature is 2c.However,just spoken to my daughter who lives at Epsom and she tells me its snowing
