Road Washings
With recent snowfall countrywide and an awful lot of precipitation locked up in and on the land, we are going to be due some higher river levels when eventually we begin to thaw out.
I was wondering what effect the huge amount of road-spread gritsalt will have when it finds its way into the watercourses through storm water drainage etc. I am aware that this happens every year and that some claim it can put fish temporarily off the feed, but there have been thousands of tonnes of the stuff laid down this year - more than previous years. Have any scientific studies been undertaken to assess the impact of road washings on our river systems?
Cheers,
Matt
