Default Hello, and New Year's Resolution

Hi all,

Just a quick post to introduce myself, having just recently found this forum. Looks pretty lively in here. My New Year's Resolution is to fish more, having been away from it for about 5 years.

Looks like lots of the kit has advanced in that time so that seems like a good excuse to go shopping in the run up to the trout season . I will mostly fish in the Yorkshire Dales - the last time I went fishing was at Bolton Abbey - so may well look to buy a new 9ft #5 rod to celebrate getting back to it. The Greys G-Tec looks to be the business, although someone has mentioned a Loop Greyline 9ft #5 rod that he might be looking to sell. Any thoughts?

Happy 2010

Welcome to the forum. I think you will find it helpful and entertaining. Sometimes we even get to talk about the fishing too. As for rods you will get anglers better equipped to advise you than me, but personally if it's rivers that you intend to fish I would go for a lighter weight, 4 or even 3. I had an Orvis Frequent Flyer, 3 weight last year and have been delighted with it. Lovely soft action and you will find the multi-section rods much better than they used to be, making them so much easier to stow, and carry. All the best, Alan.
