I once had the same problem with an airflo rod. The reel simply wouldn't fit!!!! Thing was......it was an airflo reel that i was trying to put on it!!!!! They even argued about giving me my money back!!!

Sorry, know that doesn't help but look at it this way, you've now got a cracking excuse to get a new spanking reel!!!!

I'm Sorry to say,It's more common than you'd believe/should be.
It's about blo*dy time a standard was set up for reel foot sizes,It's not rocket science.

You could try filing it down. Might work.

this happened to me with a scierra ferrox 5wt and greys gtx
solution..........i cut strips of black insulating tape to pad out the blank at the reel seat so the lugs on the reel would catch the keepers...not ideal but i didnt want to buy a new reel as i had 4 spools for the gtx. this is a common problem i have a decent american ross reel which wont fit the rods its intended for.one other solution...hardy angel for your birthday!!

Yep I have saved a stack of money in the last few years by filing the reel foot down and primer painting the foot after, many reels will not fit many rods they want you to by a new reel they are not dull a small flat file will do it very quickly.

My mate bought a 5wt Demon rod from Grommit and had the exact same problem.
He was so chuffed getting his new Hardy rod, then he tried to fit his old reel on the rod so he could give the rod a flick or two.
His face was a picture

On that note he is now looking for a Hardy Demon reel for sale if any one has one for sale please pm me.

Sorry for hijacking thread.

Cheers

Munro

I filed the reel down last time, fits perfectly now but was a cheap reel so not too bothered with the result, you couldnt see the file marks when it was on the rod.
Trouble is if you do that you will miss the excuse of buying a new one..... lots of sales on at the moment as there are a lot of new models coming out in 2010 and plenty of 2009 stock left.
