Default life jacket / floatation question

Ok so i know because of health and safety you need to wear some floatation device which is fine.

but i am wandering can you wear it under your fly vest or dose it have to be ontop ? i know it sounds stupid , but even the hi - fit ones would get in the way of the fly patch , and everything else on your vest do they not ?.
this is the one i will be buying, as it seems to be the only reasonably priced one i can find. Ergo Hi-Fit Manual Lifejacket with waistbelt*::*Commercial/Professional Lifejackets*::*Parmaris Gas Inflation Lifejackets*::*Cheaplifejackets

They should be worn outside all garments, including your fly vest/waistcoat.

The only other alternative are bum bag type flotation devices, which are banned on many stillwaters, or aquire a fly vest that has a built in flotation device, such as the Englands model for example.

The Pirate.

This is your LIFE that you are talking about, not some posy fly patch, which surely can be moved to a different place.

pitsford tank you for your reply , i had seen in an other post you replied to about bum bag versions which i had not realised you could get . partly because i have never needed to use a life jacket before seen as i have never fly fished until late last year.

taff there was an other post some where floating about with cheap priced life jackets that were from sailing shops. but i could not find it even with a search of the site * using the search * or a google. so i checked my bookmarks and found i had kept that site i provided in a link

Going back to your original question about wearing your life jacket under your vest: you must not do this because should the life jacket go off you are in danger of crushing your ribs or not being able to breath because of the pressure from the life jacket.

Another point to cosider is that combined jackets such as the Airflo and the Snowbee are NOT lifejackets but floatation aids. They will not turn you over should you become unconscious
