I thought I may have bitten off more than I could chew today, when I took my fishing kit out to the car and saw 2 cars abandoned in my cul-de sac alone, I decided if I could get the car out I would make it Richmond, and I did. I did not hold much hope for catching today but I planned to get out today so off I went.
Richmond Bridge
I did not want to travel far incase I got snowed in so opted for the stretch of Swale between the bridge and falls and parked at the old station. This River below Richmond lower School looked inviting so this was my first stop.
First stop, the Swale and Richmond Lower School.
It was not long before I had the first fish a Grayling, that was quickly followed by two of the nicest Brown trout I have ever seen come out of the Swale, both over the 1Lb mark. Begrudgingly both went back un-photographed as quickly as possible.
The Grayling
The cold was starting to get the better of me now so I thought it was time for a move and headed down stream passed the swimming pool, about half a mile. The walk warmed me up nicely.
The Walk
The second stop proved less fruitful and I had no fish here although it is one of my best grayling spots.
The second stop.
After a couple of hours here I went back up river to where I had had my earlier success but had no more fish, the cold was really starting to kick in now and I think any chance of more fish was lost as early afternoon set in so I called it a day, I will have to get up earlier next time as I am sure I have more success in the mornings .
The only bad part of the day was braking one of the eyes on my rod whilst trying to seperate the sections when I got back to the car, hands were too cold and slipped down the rod snapping one of the snake eyes, that will cost me £45 but it was worth it.
Hope you enjoy.
