Question Common Minnow on the Fly

Hi everyone,

Happy new year to all. I was just wondering if anyone else as a sideline, has caught a common minnow as a by-catch of fly fishing for river browns?

For the first time last season I legitimately had to of these little fellows on the fly, caught in the side of the mouth on size 16/18 black and silver spiders in the slow water margins of pools.

Has anyone else caught these lovely little beggars on the fly?
I cannot find any info. of such cases. I don't think they are on too many 'target specimen' lists...

Cheers,

Brent.

Have caught hundreds on a wee nymph while deliberatly trying to catch them, but not by accident.
My brother caught on on a size 0 mepps spinner fair and square while fishing for trout.
It was about an inch bigger than the spinner

Not caught a minnow but last season caught about 3 bullheads on a nymph. All under 1" long.

Yeah, minnow fishin with the top section of the rod. Great fun when the fishin is slow due to a blazing sun. Even better fun if you can get a wee competition going with a fellow angler...better fun than flogging a dead horse. barbless hooks mind in the small sizes! :>)

Oddest thing I've caught on a Mepps is a freshwater mussel. I was fishing for perch in a gravel pit, spinning very slowly, bouncing it along the bottom ... must have bounced into the open mussel that promptly closed on my Mepps! Had to open the mussel with a knife to retrieve the spinner.
