Barbusbruce, a decent answer well done.
Some people have only started and, as expected, need to ask questions that some may find 'beneath them'. Surely the site is to help people

I always seem to end up with more wind knots with fluorocarbon, perhaps as a result of its narrower diameter. A more likely explanation is my unique casting style, where the leader actually spends most of its time embedded in a shrubby riverside tree.

I use drennan sub-surface nylon, because it is cheap, tough, and still fools the fish. Fluorocarbon is not really an option for an impoverished student like myself, because it seems to be c.£10 for 100m of the stuff!
