Hi Scooby

Funny you should ask that. I got a Bob Nudd DVD from someone who obviously doesn't understand the fishing I do and I've watched a bit of and he explains the fig of 8 knot. It is a knot, try a search as it may appear on a fishing site somewhere but if no success I'll have another look and try to explain it to you.

I can,t find one geting tied. however i think i might have it going on the same princple as the loop. Take the two tag ends face them into each other try 6" do the figure 8 loop. When that,s done your left with a great join and two droppers. I don,t know about using the droppers he does emphisise not to put anything on it, need to experiment a bit more. if some other people could try it and see what they think comparing it to a join you,d normaly do. Ive always used the uni knot and the figure 8 join snaped it It will be interesting to see how others get on.

Thanks everyone for there input spot on Kenny does this sound right to you ?

I also use them for droppers, instead of water knots, dead quick and simple to tie, even in the dark. I can't remember one failing, though that could be failing memory.

Rather than form a loop with the line turning back on itself, you take your length of dropper and make the knot as shown in the vid, instead of pulling the loop through you are pulling the dropper and line.

Default This a great knot .... especially if it's dead serious COLD out side.

A lot of our fishing Guides (your Gillies) use this knot especially during the winter. Easy to tie even if your fingers are sticks of ice.

Be careful. With some tippet material the resulting knot strength can be considerably lower than the line strength.
Test the knot and if it breaks easily try taking the line throught the loop twice instead of the normal once, wet it before tightening. This can produce a very secure knot.
