Default Tenkara

I was looking at the web site Tankara USA and was wondering if they would be usefull over here in the UK and has any of the Forum members tried them.
Also are there any UK suppliers.
This is only my second year fly fishing with a rod and reel so I should really stick to this method and become proficient at that before messing about with another style. But I am tempted to give it a go.
May I take this opportunity in hoping that you all had a good Xmas and to wish all the Forum a Happy New Year.
May our paths cross on the river bank in 2010.

Tenkara is the ancient way that the Japanese use to flyfish, there is no reel and the rods are between 11ft and 13ft telesopic.

Ive been nymphing for grayling and only use a short line so I thought- might as well do away with the fly line and reel and use a tenkara pole. Anyone use it?

Tenkara, I gave it a go. Broke the rod whilst trying to commit seppuku after I blanked.

No worries Morrisdancer, I don't think it's mandatory. Did they mention on the Tenkara website. That you must perform a small bow before and after leaving the water.

I look forward to hearing how you get on with it.

Peter,
Despite what people say about this technique, it is very good. There are at least 4 people I know who subscribe to this forum who use them. Not all the time but they do use them effectively.
In some ways, it takes us back to the beginning of the 19th century and the method has merit.
I myself, have been bringing more and more of these types of techniques into my fishing of 'spiders'. Short line upstream use of spiders is VERY effective and while I haven't gone the Tenkara approach, I have never the less have been interested in the technique.
I find it interesting as to how 'closed minded' we can be here. For example, some of the techniques used in Eastern Europe are only just finding their feet here but they are by fare more effective.
So, keep up with it and I am sure you may get a PM from someone on the forum who has had experience using Tenkara rods.
