Just come across their website. It looks to be mainly a coarse fishing club but they have water on the Itchin. Does anybody know if this is good fly fishing water for grayling?

Regards

Peter

They have several stretches that are unfishable by fly, although ironically one of them is fly only , they have a large piece of the main itchen called the lower bardern, it is awful broken soupy and slow with old bikes and shoppping trolleys, suffered badly from neglect, bank erosion and silting up have made it a very sorry site, ok if you want to fish for roach but not much of a trout/grayling river, they have 2 legs of the carriers the that come off the Barden... both ahve very high banks and no proper access to the bank it gets choked with weed in spring/summer, thy also have a piece at winnall, the single bank they have the rights to is bush/tree lined and heavily reeded..

I contacted the chairman if EDAC and offered to coordinate efforts to secure funding for restoration of the lower barden, told him that the club and eastleigh council would need to make a small contribution but this could be easily recovered by offering a supplementary game membership to members...

i felt it could be a win - win... the council (owners) get to bang the environmental drum, the club get a stretch of very nice river , and attract anew set of potential members whils also providing an alternative venue for the existing memebership...

It went down like a pork pie at a Hannakah party, i was told quite plainly "they" (he/the comittee) werent interested in game angling... and couldnt see the point in spending club money on what he considered was a great piece of river...

my advice... look else where...
