Default New to the forum

I,m new to the forum and would like to say hello to everyone. I would also like to put a question to the forum. I,m wondering if salmon spawn in a particular month of the year. Or when they enter the river are they ready then to spawn ?

Hi 'hoggy' - & welcome to the forum (I feel I can do this - but only in 3lb's absence) .

Salmon spawn in late autmn & early winter ie. this time of year. They don't spawn on entering the river unless they are very very late runners.

Sea trout tend to spawn a bit earlier than Salmo salar, say late Oct or November which is why I think proper anglers don't fish for sea trout beyond September and most cease earlier.

Salmon that enter the river early, traditionally the 'springers', won't spawn until the winter, the same as later running fish. Different rivers have different 'runs' of fish - which explains why the salmon season varies so dramatically from region to region. In most rivers salmon spawn between November and December although variations in water and temperature may result in spawning at any time between October and February.
