Default fly tying - help!

Hi all
firstly, the polite, social stuff - merry christmas and a great new year to all!
I started fly fishing this year, and having just treated myself (well, who ever buys you what you'd like for xmas? ) to a beginners fly tying kit. I believe there's a group around the chesterfield (derbyshire) area that meet regularly, and was wondering if anyone had any info? If so, can you tell give me details and are ham fisted novices allowed?
cheers
maggie

Here's a link to the Fly Dressers Guild:

Not sure if it helps though!

Welcome - all of the above is good advice and I'm sure you will enjoy this game.

Search Youtube for "davie mcphail fly tying" and you will fine a treasure trove of wonderful lessons.

Hi', Greyhound girl, and welcome to the forums. As the lads say, there is a wealth of advice and images on here that will help you no end.
Don't you ever apologise for being a beginner at anything. Everyone who has ever tried to tie a fly probably asked himself or herself --- 'Why do I have fingers and thumbs like a bunch of bananas?' Nobody was born a professor, nobody was born a fully-skilled fly dresser. Good luck, I guarantee that you will surprise yourself before so long. TerryC
PS If it helps to tell you, I don't claim to have taught anyone to tie flies; but I've shown a fair few how to do it, and they have learned so well that most of them are better at the game than I am. I put that down to their efforts, not mine.

I will second that. Davie Macphail's fly tying movies are the best on the web. He ties the patterns very well and has many tips to make the more difficult operations easy.

The only problem I have had has been with his accent.

Oliver Edwards is also very good, especially if you are a northern river angler.

Regards
