Very worth reading that.

I would add that fluorocarbon is not invisible, it is less visible.

Over the years, fluorocarbon has developed a bad reputation because of the numbers of bad and mis-specified products on the market. Virage is one of the better ones.

I spent over two years field testing Kryston Incognito, both from a fly fishing and a coarse fishing perspective. The knots were interesting in that some that were thought as ideal, were not.

For example, the best all round knot for tying on a fly was the 4 turn half blood knot, no tuck!

Fluorination of polymers tends to reduce the low temperature properties (reduction in Glass Transition temperature) of polymers, has anyone found this to be the case with fluorocarbon line becoming brittle at the temperatures we are getting at the moment?

Actually I just Googled it and the TG of Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) is -35°C so I cant imagine anyone is fishing at this temp unless we have some ICE fishermen on here

Good luck with the old fluoro. I've tried different brands, different knots, tying them all manner of ways and still find it to be totally unreliable. As to it being invisible

Last season one of our regular anglers recommended Lureflash Mamba to me and swore by the stuff. He reckoned he had never experienced any breakages once he had discovered the right knot, a seven-turn blood knot!

I saw him a couple of weeks later and he just happened to mention that he had been broken three times that morning

You should fish with whatever you have the most confidence in. Try them all... then go back to Maxima Ultragreen, I did, or you could stick with Maxima and save yourself some money.

Amen! Like you, I DID try them all, Frog's hair, fluoro, etc. etc., and in the end, I stuck with the Maxima Ultragreen. In terms of value/quality for price, it's unbeatable.

Default flourocarbon

Well, just to put a spanner in the works..............I used to use maxima all the time. Changed over to Froghair 6.8lbs for the seatrout and rainbows. Use seaguar 15.4 lbs for the salmon, and funnily enough, I have experienced better luck all round, no slipping knots (half blood) and no breakages! All the best and have a great christmas!!!
