Default to go or not to go lol

right then ,,, it has been a while since my last outing with rod and reel. and i have managed some how to free up some time this week. so thinking in spending 6 hours at a local fishery ( Balado fishery ) which i have never heard off until i joined this forum , to find that it is up the road from me pmsl. WHOOOOPS.

but i am in 2 minds to go or keep the money towards a new reel, the reason to why a new reel is because there is a problem with the airflo c8 i have just now. the line some how gets behind the guard on the bottom of the reel and ends up coming out behind the guard and rubbing against it or gets trapped in the smallest of grooves where the guard sits in. which means i have to stop fishing pull the spool out and correct the line and push spool back in cast a few times and stop and have to sort it again.

so go fishing or keep money for new better reel before the lines are damaged....... ?

Better phone the fishery before setting out. It may not be fishable (ice) if your weather is anything like the rest of the country.

I can't even get my car out of the garage safely. There's a queue of cars stuck behind one spinning it's wheels right outside my window just now.

I'm no fair-weather fisherman but sometimes you have to be sensible.

I Went to Clegg Hall, Rochdale on Saturday and was frozen solid. The bloke at Pennine fishery told me they are ice free, as they are stream fed. I am a novice at Fly fishing but can't wait to get out again.

Sounds like you desperately need a new reel, before your lines are ruined. You don't really need a day's fishing... in this weather?

Default Buy the reel ...

As Tommy says, it sounds as though not buying a reel will cost you more in the long run.

That would be my first priority, especially given the current weather conditions.

Get a new reel. I had a C8 which was part of a TF subscription, and had exactly the same problem as you with it. the drag is also dreadful on it. It's cheap, yes, but also nasty. There are plenty of decent reels out there that won't bankrupt you, bot not this one.
