Default Tippet Rings

Quite like the idea of these things for preserving a tapered leader although at first i was not sure about adding them to a dry fly set up so was thinking about trying the 1mm diameter ring.

I would usually be fishing the tapered end down to 4-5lb breaking and a few feet of 2-4lb.

Question - is the 1mm diameter ring easy enough to get both ends attatched ?

Shakes and poor eyesight should be taken into account.

Cheers.

Dunno about the 1mm ones but the Riverage 1.5mm ones are fine for that sort of set up and are easy enough to tie in.
They dont scare fish either, albeit i stopped using them for different reasons.

I use the 1.5mm rings on the ends of my tapered leaders and occasionally use them down the leader, and tie droppers off them. I've also used them with the dry fly too. Had no problems with them.

1.5 mm are fine, and there,s plenty room for both ends and a dropper if required.

1.5 mm rings are a great invention to go on the end of tapered leaders to join the tippet and for making droppers - you can just replace the dropper length. Where do you get 1 mm rings from?

I use these rings and like you my close up vision is not as good as it was. What I do is attach a ring to the end of a shop bought tapered leader,I do this at home not at the waterside, it is then much easier to attach tippet and dropper to the ring as you require.

This method is ideal for a two fly set up which I prefer, if you want to use more than two flies you could use a further ring on an extra tippet extension or use a water knot between the ring and point fly for the extra dropper.

Using this method with the tippet ring also extends the life of the leader as you are not always cutting it back to tie a water or blood knot.

I tie a small perfection loop in the end of the leader and the same on the top end of the tippet. Connect loop to loop.
I think I got this idea from an feature by Howard Croston and Peter Clark in Fly fishing and Flytying

A hinge that can tamper with turnover.

do you reckon a loop to loop is superior or just a knot?
