Unfortunatley this is legal.
As a retailer, when you post something it is classed as providing a service, therefore subject to VAT laws. If I charged someone £5 for delivery, I would actually only get £4.35, the remainder being VAT
However, and here is the crazy situation, there is no VAT payable on postage at the Post Office, it is VAT free. All courier companies have to charge VAT. How they can deliver without VAT is beyond me. Surely they are providing a service also?
