Natural, no roads to it, between 100 and 500 acres and full of brownies.

The perfect stillwater?

I have fished it on several occasions.

It's at 7,000 feet above sea level and about 2 miles in length yet narrow and in parts deep. It is fed by two streams where both brown and rainbow trout breed so the population of the lake consists of wild fish. There is a natural population of minnow like species plus a huge variety of insect life, including great red sedges and midge pupae over 1 inch long.

The water has a clarity that is exceedingly rare, fish can be seen 30 feet down at times. The rainbow trout reach 15 lbs, whilst the browns get to 12 lbs, all on natural food. There is a healthy population of both cock and hen fish.

The surrounding scenery is breath taking, with rugged escarpment buttressess and a waterfall.

From a kopje near the inlet of the lake you can stand and almost see down towards the Valley of a Thousand Hills.

By the lake is a small chalet with basic accommodation for 4 people. There are two sturdy rowing boats tied up outside.

In the evening you can watch the sun go down to a sensational sunset as you toast the capture of a few magnificent trout and another lousy day spent in Africa.

And it's not all that far from here that they made the movie: "Zulu".

It wouldn't be one that was "set up" at all for me - big wild and natural is my ideal. Some reservoirs come close though, eg Carsington and Haweswater, both for different reasons. Haweswater fish are also wild and the scenery is stunning. Endless Lochs and Loughs which would be ideal for me too I'm sure - I'm just in the wrong part of the country!

There are a few stillwaters that hold a special place in my affections -

1. Stithians Reservoir in Cornwall where I grew up and the fly fishing adventure started.

2. Loch Bealach a Mhadaidh between Ben Uidhe and Ben More Assynt, Sutherland.

3. Teifi Pools, Pumlumon.

It would have to have a run of silver fish, so Currane for me.

For most of the anglers on this forum it would need to be no more that 1/2 acre and stuffed with about 500 walloping great tailless stockies. Even with that there would be moans about it being too hard!
