Default Non-affiliated waters around Amesbury?

Hi guys,

Not sure if that was the best title, but here's my situation:

Recently moved into Netheravon, just North of Amesbury and Stonehenge, and am enthusiastic about getting back into fly fishing after a number of years out (thx to lots of people for replying to my other posts re rods I should buy etc).

Now, I have been put on the waiting list for Salisbury and District for next year, which I am excited about, but want to get some fishing done over the winter if I can so I can get some practice in and I am happy to fish for just about anything. It's very frustrating to have new kit but be in an area you don't know and so not know where you can use it

Can anyone give me any advice on places that are worth fishing in and around this area before I hopefully become a member of the S&D? Any advice / comments welcomed

Avon Springs fishery at Durrington is highly recommended...2 lakes plus a river beat available, the rainbows in the lakes are good quality and the winter fishing can be excellent; some nice grayling in the river as well as trout during the season...

Also, pop into Palmers, the newsagent on Bulford Road in Durrington. The local council offers inexpensive trout and grayling fishing on a stretch of the Avon through the recreation ground and Palmers sell tickets. Apparently, don't bother fishing it during the school holidays !

I think that Salisbury & District sell day tickets for some of their beats so you could try some of their water before joining.
