Default (New Here) Hello All i Wanted to Introduce my self

Hello All! Im new to the forum but not too fishing i have just spent about 20 minutes typing for you all to read and my electric went! not my day today.
lets make this short encase it happens again, I am new too fly fishing i did it for a few years when i was younger i caught a few back then at Fore mark bear in mind i was about 10 im 19 now. from then and now i become dedicated to pike fishing, Catch and release cant beat watching your prize fish swim back alive! Unless its a trout fishery i pay to fish. Anyway yesterday i found my dads rod and reel with floating line i was on a buzz! so i set off with a small box of flys and 5lb to 7lb line, i arrived at col-wick country park Nottingham at 9:30 am it was cold but not freezing i was just happy to be attempting fly fishing again so i set up the rod and line attached a 8-9ft leader of 5lb line with a single booby i think it is? gold bead, green tinsel and green feather? trying to let it sink and slowly retrieve. Basicley i had one tug half an hour before i went and i missed it because i was making a drink with rod under my arm by the time i could attempt to strike or connect it was long gone typical! I eventually left at 4pm with a smile and no regret im going back in the week but i would like some advice on lines and such if you all could be so nice My rod is 9ft with a 7/8 weight line floating my fly collection is terrible i have browsed some threads and those Apps Blood worms look realy tempting even for me! i asked another fisherman what line is better to fish with in colder months he told me it can be better to use sinking line? when they are in deeper areas "i was trying any part of the water" so my questions are what sort of price am i looking at slow sinking line? and which brands? also what flies should i be trying? the lake is pretty large im unsure of the size but google may show. im not millionaire im a teenage dad with a 125cc bike and a serious angler. Thanks for reading and i hope you may be able to help as always Tight lines
Vinny

Hi Vinny, welcome to the forum.a booby is a bouyant fly with foam eyes.which in the winter is normally used with a fast sinking line shortish leader and slow retrieve.
If you use your floater and a beaded fly you can fish to reasonable depth. If you fish very slowly. an app's at this time of year is a good fly,
And with the cold weather, you need to put in max effort between 12-2.

Jim

Hello Vinny, welcome to the forum. Enjoyed reading your post, missing the only offer of the day is par for the course, that's fishing
We all had to start somewhere, both with fly fishing and bikes
Two questions, what line weight is your rod rated for, and what's your bike?
Ronnie.

welcome to the forum nhv as someone poited out the p piarate failing that a ron thomson sink line. when i first got back into fishing 3 years ago i
got a ron thomson sink line £10 due to funds. after joining this forum i picked up that the airflo sink lines are highly rated, so when i had the £ i got a slow, med and fast sink from airflo. what a shock. Imho the r.t was every bit as good as the airflo at 4x the price. good luck Alan

Hi Midge thanks for the welcome mate the rod weight is 7 or 8 sorry not sure great for casting though i was reaching 20-30ft easy my dad has caught most of his trout on it varying sizes upto 8lb. My dad doesn't fish much since his dad died so im claiming it R.I.P Granddad
I have two bikes one which i got really cheap brand new as well a Honda Cg replica belive it or not for £380 out the box of e bay bidding lol 08 plate a great fishing bike it takes £7 of petrol money and im set big time and realy cheap insurance. i also have a track bike which i haven't had chance to ride since summer a Suzuki Gsxr S-Rad basicly its **** of a shovel for a novice rider i love it. unfortunately i haven't passed my full test yet but when i do i know what im going for. i take it you ride then? what beast do you own then?

Hi Vinny, as mentioned by dogpatch, speak to the Pirate, tell him what rod you got and he will sort you out with an appropriate line.
Seen a number of the wee CG copies, alright for the price, but stay on top of the maintenance, materials and build quality are, to say the least, suspect
Spokes slacken and wheel rims distort very quickly, and the chrome comes off the forks in strips
If you are using it regular, change the oil every 1000 miles maximum, and don't use cheap oil, go to a bike shop and get Silkolene or Rock Oil, makes a BIG difference to the lifespan of the engine.
The GSXR is a nice tool, love having a blast on any of these rep racers, but I couldn't live with one day to day anymore, the old back won't take it
Gotta have my head up and my a**e down!
Got four bikes just now, my current toy is a V-Max, doesn't go round corners too well, and needs an anchor to stop it, but what a hoot in a straight line
Keep the rubber side down and good luck on your next outing.
Ronnie.

sounds good ill send him a pm sorry dog didnt understand when u said pirate i thought it was a brand of line
Yeah the chrome on the bike is pants and like you said the wheels are too im on my second set of wheels luckily there's a Replica called the CTM and those are the wheels i got second time and they have been good so far no loose spokes or rust. your a good man you have reminded me about my oil its due for a change, The V Max is a pure beast in its own style ive seen many pictures but not one in the flesh im quite jealous Ron. as you say about your back thats why i want one now rather than later as im quite tall 6ft4, its another reason why a bigger bike is more appropriate for me its just the insurance! tight lines mate
Vinny
