Default fly line to backing

Believe it or not in 30 odd years of fly fishing i have never put a new fly line on my reel myself,{lazy bu**er} always had it done by some one in the shop. Now ,i have a couple of question, first one would you replace the backing, second one which knot do you use to connect fly line to backing an "albright knot" or a "nail knot".Thank You

Depends on the line, if it's a normal line line again I'd use a nail knot, but, if it's a glass/slime line then I'd use an albright knot as the nail knot can slide off the mono core taking the coating with it.

I've just done this for the very first time myself and found myself using the nail less nail knot. It seemed to go ok, I suspect that time will tell. Also I found a very useful video on attaching braided loops to the fly line. All I need now is to find out how to whip the loop onto the fly line.

I always use an albright knot as it is a waste of a braided loop.

I can't really be bothered with knots, so I use trimmed back braided loop and fasten the sleeve with epoxy.
