Default Camera Tripod suggestions please.

Not sure if this is the correct section but can anyone recommend a good compact light travel tripod for my Pentax water proof compact camera.

It's so I can take pics whilst fishing alone either in the UK or abroad (beach, flats etc).

Be great if it was super light and go into a waist pack but could extend to around 18" plus if on the flats or deal with uneven ground, rocky marks etc.

Thanks in advance.

Looks very like the one I bought from Tesco for £9.50 or so. Works reasonably well but will not take any rough treatment. I suppose it is difficult to light and sturdy.

It's a really difficult one to solve. My advice would be to get a 2pc telescopic bank stick with a camera adapter fitted to the standard thread.

They aren't too bad Malcolm, for the money.
I bought one to hold my video recorder on, and to date it has been fine.
Saying that these modern day videos, weigh little more than an older SLR camera.
Time will tell I suppose, but at £6.99 delivered not bad.
From your neck of the woods as well, if memory serves me well.

I'm going to get one of these puppies. May not extend so high but I've bought a cheap tripod and it's lasted less than a year. This will be perfect for stuffing in the fishing bag I reckon. Reasonable price for the compact camera one at least!

Not a traditional tripod but its a great light weight back up for travelling, The wide gate gives you really good stability.

Hi Wozzer, if it's mainly for holiday/occasional use, and for use with a compact, then I'd go for something cheap as chips. It doesn't have to be too sturdy as it's only going to bear the weight of a compact. Even a cheapo will stand a couple of seasons of being kicked around a beach. Main objective is to get the camera off the ground and to keep it still. A cheapo will do that for you just fine.
