Default river trent

i was out today and had a look at the river trent, but have to say as far as i got upstream it still looked very tidal and mucky,so just how far upstream on the trent would i need to go to find some good fishing?
im based more or less as it comes into the humber.

The Trent is tidal from collingham Weir downstream, Collingham is a well known circus for barbel anglers. Upstream it's wide and deep with numerous weirs (about 9 I think), and it remains quite coloured untill you reach upstream of the confluence with the Trent and Mersey canal. Ive only fished as far as Castle Donnington, here it was still forty to sixty yards wide, but it is clear and does have good beds of ranunculus and a very powerful flow. Ive caught barbel, chub and a single brown trout from this stretch. The stretch is available on day ticket from the Priest House hotel or at least they were three years ago at a cost of a fiver each. Ive seen Yellow May duns and I suspect there would be good levels of fly life. The Trent is mostly fished for its barbel most suited to ledgering. It could be worth looking well upstream maybe getting towards Stoke. But flyfishing would be very challenging. Good luck.

You might just about get some grayling in the Trent where The Dove flows into it, but that's some walk.

Chub ... take your pick. I think I'm right the the record chub (8lb 10oz?)came out of the Trent at some stage - not sure if it's the current record.

Grayling? I think you'd be better off exploring the Dove or the Derwent.

Sadly the current record is from a commercial stillwater.
