Default A long shot but.............

I wonder if anyone can help? Several moons ago, on the forum which preceded this one, I read what was arguably the most humorous post of my forum life.

The posters name eludes me and despite several fruitless attempts to find the post I'm still none the wiser.

It was a summary of a calamitous day's fishing at Grafham.....the poster told us of his antics as he struggled due to his inexperience. He managed to raise the alarm which prompted the launch of the emergency boat, which in the first instance, assisted him, but then got into difficulties itself - something to do with a buoy and a prop.

I know that the current admin team were involved with the last forum......can you help admin? Or alternatively, do any of you other old f a rt s remember this and if so can you please shed some light on the matter?!!

A long shot I know........but here's hoping

Hey Bugsy,

I'm sorry mate I don't remember that thread... but there were some gold moments on the old forum... a little more wild west than around here!

Just wanted to say hope the Dee Mafia had a great season (ongoing with the grayling) and would you be able to pass on a happy new year and very best wishes to the old general Spy1 for me. That's if he's not still sleeping at HQ.

Cheers,

Brent.

I seem to remember something on those lines Bugsy.... Especially when I spent a day at Rutland when the lodge was in Whitwell... My brother and I were washed-up on Sykes lane after our engine failed to start... The engine was stuck fast on one of the many tree stumps and the weather was blowing a hoolie!! Waves were huge and these days boats would not have been allowed out!!... So.. no mobile phones... I elected to walk all the way back to the lodge to get help... I spoke to the warden and he said to get in the rescue boat (another fishing boat) and take him to the area in question.... I seriously didnt want to venture out in those conditions and was proverbially cr@pping myself!! ... To cut an even longer story short, we made the perilous trip across the reservoir to Sykes.... A big wave threw us onto another tree stump and we got stuck!!!.. this was after colliding with 'our' boat which became untangled... it started-up... and we had to rescue the rescue boat!!!... and another very very scarey tow back to the lodge...

Had a funny experience a few years ago at a fishery. Four of us had gone for the day, we booked a couple of boats for the day. It was a blisteringly hot day, not a breath of wind and the sun was bouncing off the surface like a lazer.

Myself and my boat partner (Mark) were anchored up near some cages with our mates in the other boat about 20 yards away. Mark was trying out his new Hardy setup which he was rightly very proud of. After a fruitless hour by the cages we decided a move was in order, Mark put his for down (line still out) and started to lift the anchor. I'm sure you can all guess what happens next, yep, the line starts to scream off the reel and we both look at the rod just in time to see it disappear over the side off the boat, shortly followed by Mark who wasn't about to see his pride and joy be lost into the abyss.

It was a dive Tom Daley would have been proud of, he entered the water with hardly a splash (no mean feat considering he weighs 16 stone). Thankully he reappeared a few seconds later holding aloft his beloved Hardy, fish still on!

Now, because of Marks ample wieght, made worse by his clothes being waterlogged he was unable to climb back in the boat, he did try a few times but the whole thing nearly went over. Not wanting to join him I told him if he tried it again I'd stamp on his fingers (that's what friends are for right?).

I glanced over at our other mates in the second boat hoping they could come and assist, no chance, they were both in tears with hysterics, holding bellies laughing and pointing.

Thankfully an bank angler had witnessed the drama unfold and had informed the manager we had a black-hawk down. He appeared a couple of minutes later in his larger boat and we were able to man-handle Mark into his boat. By now he'd lost the fish.

A memorable day indeed, one of the funniest memories, we still talk and laugh about it to this day.

SP that was a corker nearly fused my laptop, as better half had just popped a cup of tea in front of me whilst I was reading!

Give it a few years and when telling the grand kids embelish it a bit with the ending tweaked, resulting in a landed fish perhaps?
