Default river stocking

this is probly a dumb question but.....when some areas are stocked with trout ect how or why dont the fish just move on? or is it down to what that area of the river has to offer them such as food quality of water ect?

Normally when a river is stocked its only to top up the natural supply of fish to allow fish to be taken by anglers. The stocking is not normally as intense as even a fairly wild fishery normal just 100 or 200 fish to help keep the population numbers healthy.

I've found that stocking keeps population numbers - unhealthy.
