Default HELP! – Need translation for Fly Fishing Terminology.

Fly fishing is now become universally accepted sport/recreation world wide.
Fly fisherman travel all over the world to pursue their passion, but sometime found some difficulties to explain what we are doing to a non flyfisherman such as airline check in staff, immigration, customs, and quarantine officer in many different part of the world. I’m concern that word by word translation of ‘fly rod’ could mean something embarrassing or offensive in some language

It’ll be fun to compile this terminology in many different languages for everybody to use. Feel free to add more languages, and please limit the words added to just fly fishing terminology.
KEEP IT IN THE SAME ORDER AS THE ENGLISH ONE as this would make easier for everybody to follow.

Thank you, Mercy, Danke, Dank U, Muchas Gracias, Bene Grazie, Obrigado, Tak, Spaseba etc.etc.
Bintoro

Welcome to the forum.

Babelfish should be able to translate your fishing terms into many languages.

Hi', Bintoro.
I endorse what Jim says, and I thank you for a most useful post. I have a friend who is Italian, and who has fished with me once or twice each year since I met him in 1988. I can't converse with him in Italian, beyond the odd word or two, but I can just about manage in present tense French, if we get stuck with his English -- which is not very often. TC

Thumbs up Classic first post!

As my 'primary language' is now 'American,' TRUST ME ON THIS ONE, not the same as English (anymore, anyway)! Many of the most 'neutral descriptive terms' we would use 'over here' have FAR different meanings in "Jolly Old" or elsewhere.

Thank God (taken aside even by young ladies) I've had 'what that means over here.' Who knew?, who knew???????

Simple example: Pouch you ware around your waist to hold what-ever; we call them 'fanny packs' as they're usually slipped around and carried at the small of your back. 'Over there ... their 'Bum-bags' as ... well you all know where this could go ....
