Default Nostalgia

It's so frustrating not being able to fly fish! How long away does March seem ?

Anyhow, what I miss most at this hectic, exam-driven peroid of my life is the hour or so before dark on a warm summers evening, with the sun dancing on the perfect little streams Knowing every cast into the fast riffles or the sluggish eddies on the far bank will equal a lively little wildy

Nostagic memories will see me through I suppose Also lets see what fishing related goodies Santa brings Fly fishing is such a relaxing thing to do that I feel I need it more than ever now in Winter since I have nothing to do but revise!

So then-In this horrible forced abstinence from fishing, what defines nostalgic fishing memories for you?

Tick, tock please fast forward to the start of the season.

In the meantime anyone with facebook feel free to add me

Yes, it's a dismal time of year. I console myself with a computer game called Flysim. You can buy it from the website of same name. It keeps me amused for hours and is IMO the best of the flyfishing simulators.
Download the free demo for a taster.
Highly recommended.

Plenty of fisheries are open all year round - where's the problem?

On the milder days a deep, slowly fished lure or nymph can work wonders, but if you'd rather stay at home dreaming

I only fish small, wild streams for small, wild trout

Unless you are a total purist ,wander down the valley and find some grayling!
I used to do a closed season and then I found trout ,and then I became purist resser trout only and found i had another close season ,and then I fiund sense and can fly fish or bait fish 365 days a year, there is always something to fish for .
I think we all need a dose of fresh air often !

You shouldn't restrict yourself to just that. During the season I also mainly fish my local river for trout but really enjoy a bit of stockie bashing as well. Pretty mild here today so I was out early this morn. Fast sinking line 2 lures and had 10 bows up to 8lb in 2 hrs fishing . Great fun you should try it.

Santa clause is coming
Santa clause is coming

Time to pour through the mail order catalogues and drop huge hints. Then there is the pike, the trotting for chub, the enjoyable Saturday in front of the rugby and of course blasting pheasants with a shotgun.

To me this time of year is all about doing something that ends in front of a blazing pub fire with a pint of bitter in your hand watching the damp gradually steam off your clothes.

Winter before Christmas is still, I think, a wonderfully exciting time. After it's over though there is just the 6 nations ....... and a long wait.

Ditto (well almost - I never became a pure ressy fly fisherman). My fishing opportunities are precious enough as it is without making it worse by confining myself to one species/method/season. Its also much more interesting (IMHO) to learn about different fish species, habitats and techniques.
