Hi.
I was watching these yesterday. Unfortunately episode #2 seems to be missing & that is Kite's trip to Two Lakes.

Edit:
They've put it up now

Watching these always makes me think how sad it was that we lost Oliver Kite so early in his life.

One thing that surprised me when I first heard the commentary was that Kite had a distinct "Newport" accent when I was expecting either the patrician "officer" accent or maybe a Wiltshire burr. In retrospect this was not so surprising for Kite was a Welshman, born in Castleton just outside Newport, where he spent much of his youth.

I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

I wonder how much his rod cost, expensive do you think?

Oliver Kite used an 8 foot 6 inch Milbro rod in hollow glass for the last several years of his life ! I have also seen a picture of him using a hollow glass (Edgar Sealey ?) rod built on Fenwick blanks for lake fishing, see the picture captioned "reaching out" in A Fishermans' Diary where you can make out the Fenwick logo on the rod butt.

As Sewinbasher says, it was so sad that OK died aged only 47. Quite apart from the tragedy for his family, we could have done with him for a lot longer as a superb advocate in the media for fishing and the outdoors.

Indeed, a tragically early death. I'm 47 now. I better get some fishing in while I can!

I believe that his river rod was a Milbro Trufly as he once mentioned this in an article. I have an identical rod in the garage and I'm lucky enough to have the two b&w series that he made on video (transferred to DVD). What I haven't got but would love to get hold of are some of his Kite's Country programmes sadly only shown on Southern TV. Looking through the DVD I can see both rods in action and the Sealey rod is being used in the colour Episode 1 of "A Tribute to Oliver Kite" with its distinctive yellow blank. I also had this rod in 8' 6" and the sea trout version was my first stillwater rod and nearly killed me after a days fishing as it weighed a ton.

Default Kites Country

Delighted to see him again after 43 years. I use to watch Kite's Country as a boy in Portsmouth. I still recall the last day of the season curry! Thanks for the post.
