Default large reservoirs or small stillwaters?

hi, just wondering what your fews are on fishing small stillwaters to large reservoirs. My preference is the larger waters but have had some great days on the smaller waters ,just feel like you are fishing ontop of everyone on a smaller water

I love them both..as they both have something different to offer.

Reservoirs can be extremly difficult in the winter months or summer months from the bank - especially for the visiting angler !

Small still waters usually have a higher number of stock fish per acre, and give the angler a fair chance all season long. They are also affected less by high winds etc...

There's good and bad examples of both....as far as small stillwaters go I love, Ringstead Grange, Elinor, Bushylease.

Reservoirs Grafham, Rutland, Draycote, Eyebrook, Lake of Menteith

By fishing both experience both types of water...and in my mind is more challenging than fishing the same venue each week be it small or large

Same as rob, i love fishing both..... fishing small stillwaters can at times be overcrowded, where as on large waters such as rutland etc you have so much water you can cover... Both can be very challenging or easy at times, but at the end of the day i just like to get out on the water

For me, Rutland, Grafham and Stocks everytime over small stillwaters, however during the closed season I find smallwaters a nice change and handy for keeping your eye in for the following season when the reservoirs re-open

Each to their own though in my book

Another vote from me for "I love them both", for similar reasons to Terry's and Rob's.

Only thing I will say is; the end result of having fished on a number of smaller waters over the years, still really enjoying reservoirs, and my interest in river fishing growing, is that I am now quite choosy about the small waters I fish. There are, sadly, one or two somewhat less impressive ones still around. I am lucky to have Avon Springs and Holbury close by me, plus Avington for a twice yearly treat.

I also tried Delbury Hall in Shropshire in September on Birdsnest's recommendation, in a striking location just at the foot of Wenlock Edge (sounds great, doesn't it ?) which was also very nice, I hope to try it again.

I prefer reservoirs, purely for the scenery, I'd rather have a couple of fish on this than loads on a small stocked still water, I also prefer catch and release, I think my local stillwater does't allow this.

Cheers
Steve
