Probably best when there's a hatch of Blackus Blobbus and the fish are preoccupied on them.

Mate you may be fishing your Blobs to close or to slow. Some guys are fishing 20ft leader 10ft between Blobs.Remember youll never out strip a trout
so youll never be to fast some days.I dont fish comps much but do use Blobs
they do work sometimes but not always. It maybe you just havnt found the fish on the day.On the big English waters there fishing them through wellknown stockie holding areas. The more you have them on the more chance of success.

i find they work best when there is a bit of colour in the water, clear water i find a brighter blob outfishes black everytime, my fav though is half UV black and half hot orange plush fritz from the craig barr range of stuff

On Smallwaters pull one through rising fish............ the other time it's worth giving them a run is when it's rock hard .

A bunch of buzzers!!... If I was asked which lures to use on say Grafham? I would say 2 Basic Black blobs... fished 10ft apart... Double on the point n single on the dropper... Make sure the fritz is teased back.

Tweek your blobs a little on the vice too, try adding jungle cock cheeks on them, or simply using orange thread instead of black when building up the head on them.

One of my best blob patterns is 3 turns of stright black fritz, add a couple of turns of black uv fritz, then for the last few of wraps go back to straight black fritz.

On some waters fish get that many blobs and boobies pulled past them, adding something that little bit different can be the difference between success and failure.

Try them under an indicator, we tried it at Wykeham Lakes last winter and couldn't stop catching.

I also bagged up at Rutland using a method mentioned previously, Flouro Orange blob on the dropper and a Black standard blob on the point. Vary the retrieve and as soon as you can see the orange blob stop retreiving and hang the flies for around 20 secs if nothing happens retrieve a little more, then slowly lift your rod until either you get a take or you need to recast. 8 fish in 2 hours.

Andy

P.S. Try U/V blob tail on all your blobs!!
