Packington and Heathcote are both nearby. Can't really advise on tactics (plenty on here who can I'm sure).

I fish Packington regularly. Not always the easiest of waters but once you get to know it's moods you will seldom blank. Full of big fish at the moment..I haven't caught anything less than about 4lbs. there, for weeks and quite often take doubles.

Heathcote, I wouldn't give you tuppence for. A couple of puddles in a field.

A bit further afield but only an hour or so is Lechlade/Bushey..my favourite..if only they would allow C&R, I'd go more often.

Blithfield is still open (I think). I don't much care for it but that is just a personal thing. As ressies go, it's very nice.

Thornton is as good as you'll get for a medium sized reservoir..in fact it's a small one at about 75 acres and run by an absolute top gent, Ifor, who gives sound advice and goes out of his way to make you welcome. Stays open for a while yet, I think.
