Simple question, do the fish we target i.e. Trout and Salmon see colours ?

With a dark fly is it the shape of the object in the water which triggers the feeding instinct ?

When a coloured fly doesn't have any " Flash ", do the fish see the colours or are they again reacting to a shape they think is a food object ?

With a lure, call it what you want, which has a bit or loads of flash ( such as a depth dabbler ) do the fish just see the metallic flash or jungle cock eye or do they react to another colour in the pattern ?

Do fish see red and if not, why is red so effective in fly patterns ?

For fishing in daylight it's fair to say trout do see in colour, but as light fades colour becomes less a factor and shade is their primary trigger.

It matters not Don. Small with black and red usually does the trick.
