Default Life cycle of the forum

Beginning to wonder whether there's a maximum time limit to be a usefull member of the forum?

Seems to be a cycle that obviously mirrors the fishing season of the same old subjects and same old arguements. New members join, quite rightly ask the same questions and on the whole are given good advice and help - what the forum is all about I think. However, after a dozen or so posts the usual, slightly controversial subjects crop up. Catch and release, fishing methods, snobbery, stocking, north - south divide etc etc. Once you have seen these old favourites debated once or twice you can almost write the script.

Not saying there is anything at all wrong with this but there does seem to be a definate "time limit" on these forums after which there's not much to comment on other than to get into these long winded, far too personal arguements that have very little to do with fly fishing.

Perhaps I should take a couple of months off! Goodness, bit old for a mid life crisis.

These kind of thoughts were crossing my mind when I read the

thread by admin, when I was trying to rough out the potential of such advertising given the fee structure.

I think the members of any forum such as this reach a saturation point pretty quickly, on all of the fronts you mention, and from a buying customer perspective. There's only a certain amount of times you can challenge the members before it becomes tiresome.

Hi I find it really depends on the subject matter that is being discussed ;I for one have asked questions regarding children in fishing these are the,now and future,of this sport and yet I've had less than six replies to these and yet general easy requests receive dozens of replies ;let's just watch this one.

Iv'e been here quite a while Reg.I still pick up good info, and travel the lenght and breadth of the UK to meet good folk on the banks.I also hope that I can still assist in some small way to help out less experienced anglers.

there is a definite pattern to it, new members go through a learning curve of aclimatisation and getting to know other members opinion, those that learn that there is rarely a single best opinion and that their own opinions can live within the wider frame of things generally live longer and go on to become part of the bigger learning exchange,

the seasonal pattern lives within the broader one, closed season goes...things get quiet, banality and arguments replace the number of productive posts, perfectly normal

And your point is?

As i have said before, i am only here to pick up loose woman, the arguments are a bonus.

Half the fun is watching a newbie come on fact finding then two weeks later teling everyone what to do and how to do it, it makes me smile anyway.

Streamflex anyone

Yes, I certainly like the excellent humour that the forum throws up! Never get tired of that. Just wish I was as quick.

Its true, the same subjects do tend to keep on cropping up on a regular basis, but theres always enough interesting stuff going on to keep me hanging around.
By and large I'd say there are a good bunch on here, plenty of interesting characters with a healthy variety of opinions. All of whom bring something to the table.

The fly-tying alone makes it worthwhile for me......long may it continue....
