Thumbs up The Lost World Of Mr Hardy

I watched this film in Derby lastnight and thought it was fantastic, and a real eye opener to what Made in Britain really meant.
Amazing old footage of the different Mr Hardy's landing fish in years gone by and interviews with many old workers, all proud to help produce the best fishing equipment in the world, a real glimpse of what this great nation was once made of, no wonder we won wars. I'm afraid we shall never witness greatness again, living in a world where everything becomes plastic and disposable and old traditions, methods and culture slowly dissapear into forgotten days. I know understand the delight of anglers who display there vintage Hardy tackle proudly and also why they pay a pretty penny to use it.

A must watch film for all anglers, just to remind us what Made In Britain stood for, you will be forced to admire the proud workers of Alnwick, who really were part of something special, making the best tackle in the whole world.

Even the trailer is worth a look, I'll keep an eye open for another showing. Christmas is coming, perhaps I'll splash out the £25 for the DVD.

The Lost World of Mr Hardy

You're right about Made in Britain disappearing but whose fault is it? Much of my tackle is but I've got a German car, Japanese tv etc etc.

Just watched this on DVD and it's superb. A brilliant film in its own right but a very poignant reminder of the lost world of much of British manufacturing and craftsmanship.

One of the current standing jokes in the Tackle Trade currently runs " Hardy's have stopped the Factory Trips - they can't afford the cost of sending the punters to Shanghai ! "

Best wishes

Steve Parton
( Sometime Boss of Raleigh's Toy Division and we all know what happened after Raleigh went East - 10,000 of us went down the road - and there ain't many left playing at bikes in a warehouse these days. And if they don't watch out at Hardy's - guess what happens next ! )
