casting into the wind
Technique is important.....but with light tackle ie.3-6 weights you'll struggle in a strong wind on most reservoirs...unless your a really good caster !
Personally i step up a line weight for my rod (basically because i never arielise enough line to load it correctly) I also find it best to use heavier lines than most anglers usually 8 or 9 weights !
It's easier to cast into a strong wind with a Sinking line....basically beacause they are thinner have less resistance and cut through the wind better. You also generate more line speed.
But its worth remembering that the water may become coloured in very strong winds; especially the first 20 yards or so which is exactly where you'll cast will end up.
I've fished in some horrendus conditions and basically if you can stand up and cast 15-20 yards then you'll catch fish (unless the waters coloured up) I usually opt for a shorter rod 9ft 3 or 9ft 6" with a 8 or 9 weight line.....8-9ft leader of stiff fluro and a single fly.....usually a Booby on a Airflo 40+ Di-7...this i find will allow me to cast in almost anything.
Remember to let the line shoot low (about 9 o clock)to stop the wind getting under your cast and blowing it back.
Also cast within your ability...so your cast always turns over and again doesn't blow back upon itself..
